Stray Kids - STAR (en) Lyrics
It feels like a storm is raging
I guess you could say we're like
small giants on stage
I'm a rock star
Let's enjoy the ride
We'll take the world by storm
with "LALALALA" in 2023
Stray Kids is back
We're finally back with a new album
I'm sure you've all been waiting
I think this is our first time
filming the intro
in the recording studio
It's nice to be back
in this small space
I think we'll be able to have
an honest conversation
I remember back when
we filmed the intro in our dorm
In the room Changbin and I shared
I remember putting our things aside
and filming it in the room
It's been a while since we filmed an
intro in this recording studio
Back then, I was wearing glasses
and wearing a Camp cap backwards
when we filmed the intro
It feels strange to be back here
This year, we got to meet
many of our STAY
in a much larger venue
We hadn't been able to meet
STAY for a while
but this year gave us the chance
to quench our desire
and prove what we've done
to so many people
That's why I'm looking forward to
this comeback more than ever
It still doesn't feel real
We've never done a concert this big
so I'm still nervous
First of all, this album
includes songs that capture
the powerful sound
you've come to expect from SKZ
Some easy listening songs as well
We have a variety of songs
That variety makes us
feel like rock stars
Personally, I think
the term "rock star"
isn't just about
playing the guitar, headbanging
or dressing like a rock star
To me, a "rock star"
isn't any of that
A rock star is a "free spirit"
A rock star is
an important artist
that represents the current era
Our group is called "Stray
Kids" after all
so I feel like the term really suits
our rebellious identity
That would be Hyunjin
I really admire the way
he expresses himself so authentically
on stage
Being on the stage
gives me a huge rush of endorphins
and fills me with so much confidence
In that sense I guess I do
feel like a rock star
I feel like a rock star
when I'm on stage
Seungmin is like a true rock star
Even in his day-to-day he's
like a rock star
When he's singing...
His personality and aura
might seem soft
but Seungmin was the first
person to break
my stereotype
He's surprisingly a free spirit
He knows how to speak his mind
even more so than Changbin
He has this sort of...
If you have a rock spirit within you
you guys are the true rock stars
Our album "ROCK-STAR"
brings me back to our "God's Menu" era
This album is filled
with music that can showcase
our physical power and strong
stage presence
It's a powerful album
"5-STAR" is like a score
It might be a standard for
how others evaluate us
or a standard for how we
evaluate ourselves
But our inner "ROCK-STAR"
goes beyond evaluations
I think they're different genres
For "5-STAR," we made up our minds
to show you our "5-STAR" effort
But for "ROCK-STAR"
we're showing us as we are
Our unfiltered free spirit
That's how I see it
I love "MEGAVERSE"
This was made very intentionally
There's a BPM change in the middle
It gradually speeds up
When we go from one BPM
to another
there's usually a pause in the middle
but we tried to make
the change gradual
That's how we made it
- "Wel" doesn't have to sound
too strong - Got it
- We'll gradually increase
the power - Yes!
The space between words could
be a bit shorter
Okay
The words could be shorter
Shorter?
Just a little bit
Alright, we'll keep that and
try a few more times
And in terms of song arrangement
The title of the song is "MEGAVERSE"
and in a way, it can seem
like a multiverse
Because the various universes
make up one big universe
we took samples and sources
from each universe
and highlighted that when
arranging the song
I really liked "MEGAVERSE"
I still do
The grandness
and the scale
"LALALALA" has a more exciting
and lively type of grandness
while "MEGAVERSE" has a heavier
type of grandness
Even if they're both grand
the song can clearly be differentiated
from "LALALALA"
as well as the performance
On the set
we tried some interesting angles
There's a scene where
the actor Seunghoon
is sitting down and I glare at him
At that moment
he's blasted backward
It was made with CGI
and it turned out so cool
He had a wire behind him
which was pulled to make it look like
I pushed him with my superpower
It looked really cool
It stars someone I like
I have
a certain connection
with that person
This could be a huge spoiler
but you won't be disappointed
And as you all know
the universe is constantly expanding
You know this, right?
Just like the universe is expanding
Stray Kids is too
Our musical spectrum
is constantly expanding just
like the universe
That's the message I wanted to convey
Last November
It's been a year now
That's when we made "LALALALA"
Initially
this song wasn't recorded
for this album
We had planned to include it in the
"5-STAR" album as a B-side track
"LALALALA" was written
as a title track
But at the time, we thought
"S-Class" was a better fit for us
so we recorded "LALALALA" as a
B-side track for that album
But as we were recording
I thought...
I really wanted to perform
this on stage
I thought this was a song
that could really show the energy
that SKZ can bring
to the music and to the stage
so I called the company in
the middle of recording
I called the higher-ups
and said, "I wish we could
keep this song"
The song that we included
instead of "LALALALA"
was "ITEM"
It's not "rock" as in the music
genre It means "pleasure"
Still, it's a word play on the word
"rock" using a homophone
Some of us in 3RACHA said
we'd like to play up the band sound
so I remember adding in
guitar sounds later on
We made some revisions to the song
We wanted to emphasize
the part where everyone
sings along
Initially "Lalalala la lalalala"
was only included before the hook
but we added it to the entire
hook as background vocals
Like this
So that everyone can sing along
like the Stray Kids "Anthem"
3RACHA said they were into
one-syllable titles
In songwriting, the title
is so important
I think one-syllable titles
give a strong impact
and considering our overall
concept and strengths
"S-Class" and "LALALALA"
go together very well
That's why we chose it
as our title track
"S-Class"
is lighter than our usual songs
It feels like a mix of
different genres
with a strong focus on sounding catchy
On the other hand, "LALALALA"
is a song with a flow
and our new energy
and an aura that can
dominate the stage
When I first saw the title without
the Chinese character
I assumed it meant "ROCK"
as in the music genre
But after listening to the song I
realized that wasn't the case
It was actually the Chinese
character for "pleasure"
People experience a multitude of emotions
throughout their lives
Joy, anger, sorrow, pleasure...
In the end
I hope the emotion we choose
is "pleasure"
I hope it would be happiness
That was my intention for this song
Of course, they're all good emotions
and emotions you must feel
in life but while you're
listening to this song
I hope you focus on the
feeling of "pleasure"
Our songs don't normally
have a melodic tune in the chorus
so hearing the melodic chorus
was a pleasant surprise
Personally, I think STAY
will love singing along to this song
We cranked up the energy in this song
so we could sing it energetically
like rock stars
That's how I directed the song
We had already recorded the song once
and when this song became
the title track
I had some parts I wanted to fix
so I ended up recording
the whole thing again
Since this became our title
track I added more power
to the falsetto parts
and sang in a full voice
Let's use the original version
for "Cause we will"
and starting from "make" I'll
sing with a full voice
Can I slide in two punches in there?
Okay, let's start from "will"
Yes, yes
By the way
This is just an idea, but right now
I'm singing "Rock" with vibrato
- You can remove that - Can I
try removing the vibrato
and make the ending sound tougher?
- The last note?
- Sounds good
For the title track
I think it will sound better
without the vibration
I'll make it sound less pretty
I loved that rhythm
- Rock...
- Did it sound too high?
Maybe we could just add the vibration
- Then instead of a pretty
vibrato - Right, right
- I can make it sound
irregular - Exactly
"Cause we will make it rock"
There's a part that goes like this
The lines after that were
mostly sung in falsetto
but I suggested reducing the falsetto
and singing it in a full voice instead
so I tried it in the booth and
it sounded pretty good
so I proposed making some revisions
to the title track
Luckily, our kind producers
accepted my idea
so I was happy with the result
This performance
is really intense
I feel like
The intensity doesn't
build up gradually
It starts off intense and
gets even more intense
It's not 0 to 100
It's 100 to 200
The moves are really big too
We have to know where
to exert our power
And the chorus...
It's grueling
"They're really pushing the limits"
"They're giving it their all" That's
how the final chorus feels like
Every time I listen to a song
I can picture the choreography
in my head
and how I want it to feel
When I listened to this song
I thought we could really
use a choreography team
to bring out the song's full potential
We were actively involved in
creating the performance
I was under this pressure to make
it better than "S-Class"
so for the performance
I was in charge of mixing and
editing the draft video
I collected ideas from
all eight members
It was the first time that all eight
of us gathered to discuss a song
I'm happy we get to perform
"LALALALA" with the dancers
I think it will really amplify the strength
and energy of "LALALALA"
Ever since "District 9" things
are getting more challenging
I guess it means we're breaking
out of our boundaries
growing, and getting stronger
I hope you cover the song
Challenges are a thing these days
But apart from challenges
I'd like to see you cover
the whole three minutes
I'll be looking forward to your covers
This was a real challenge
The choreography is so demanding
and to get used to it you have
to dance with strength
I remember we were all shouting
as we were dancing
We had that part playing on repeat
So if we were all sitting down
I'd play the music and the members
would run out to dance
But we had lots of fun
We actually enjoyed it
Is this your hardest song so far?
The hardest!
So far, our songs would have
a catchy riff, like
DU DU DU DU DU DU
MANIAC
We always had a catchy point
but with "LALALALA"
the performance itself is the point
Would you get it if I said it feels like
we're throwing a ball at you?
Do you get it?
It's a performance that shoots forward
But if you want to find the
points within that
There's Changbin's part
That goes like this
You wouldn't know what I'm
referring to, right?
I want you to be curious
I think this is our point move
It's energetic
and sends the message "This is how we're
going to show our strengths"
There's a part near the end that'll
take your breath away
It's the part where Felix goes like
this and he did such a good job
It's going to make a huge impact
The music video
is about a clash of emotions and
ultimately, pleasure wins
Those who can have fun
are the true winners
That's my motto and the story
lined up with it
It does seem like a fight
Because we filmed it ourselves
We're all the same people in a team
It felt like the music video was
showing everyone's inner side
All the emotions are colliding
Like the film "Inside Out"
In the end, "pleasure" is
the biggest emotion
and it enables us
to go on with our lives
That's how I felt
It was really intriguing
Something really cool was
we had so many dancers
dancing with us
I thought, 'How would we get
them all in the frame?'
But there was
a famous drone director on set
who flew drones to film all
the supporting actors
That was a memorable moment
Seeing a drone
filming our "LALALALA" choreography
and performance
made me realize how much technology
has improved
What a useful electronic device!
It's a good song to listen to whenever
When you're happy you'll
go, "That's awesome!"
That's how I feel too
When you're sad
'I'm sad, but this is fun'
'This is pretty fun... Why am
I moving to the rhythm?
That's how this song is like
We have what we call a work song
I think this can be categorized
as a work song
because it fills you up with energy
It's a song you can go crazy to
The image we want to portray
through "LALALALA"
is SKZ itself
Just like the SKZ you know
we want to run around
get lost
and show you how we enjoy
the music and the stage
I hope you can have fun with us
Everyone has a different way
of expressing pleasure
We wanted to show
SKZ's way of expressing pleasure
My favorite song in this album
and a song I think many
people can relate to
is the song called "BLIND SPOT"
'How should we write this song?'
'What makes a song good?'
Within 3RACHA
we had a lot on our minds
After making the first demo
and listening to the finished version
I think I cried in bed at night
I...
got very emotional listening
to this song
There's a part that goes "Not
everything is as it seems,
hidden in the blind spot"
Even if we look cool on stage
Even if we don't show it
we're always competing
and to survive in the competition
we have to
constantly evolve and improve
That's what all our members think
We're not asking for sympathy
but we just wanted you to
know what's going on
The lyrics are so relatable
At first, it made me sad
but eventually, the song
gave me the courage
to keep going forward
This isn't just about us
We just happen to be standing
in front of the camera
So many people are working hard
out of the spotlight
and their efforts won't go unseen
This song can be about
all the scenarios
that exist in this world
That's what makes it so relatable
and sad at the same time
Even though I wrote the song
I'm comforted by the thought
that I'm not the only
one who feels this way
It's a strange song that evokes
so many emotions
I had the most fun recording
"BLIND SPOT"
I was able to show
everything that I had practiced
The pre-hook
has a challenging melody line
I had a hard time with it
so I practiced similar songs
and thanks to that I think
I was able to
pull it off in "BLIND SPOT"
I was so proud
Sounds good
I'll move on to the chorus
You were amazing
The song made me realize that
hard work really pays off
That's why "BLIND SPOT" is
a special song for me
If you're going through a hard time
or if you feel stuck while
chasing your dreams
I hope you give this song a listen
I think this song will lift you up
This song incorporates
a lot of rock elements, which I like
Personally
I think this song is as good
as the title track
It's one of my favorite songs
It's another SKZ-style word play
You can already tell by the title
It means "We flex our complex"
It's a play on the pronunciation
We made up a new word called "COMFLEX"
Everybody has their flaws
but that's what makes them special
and we have nothing to hide!
We can turn our weaknesses
into strengths
We flex what others consider a complex
So don't mess with us!
It's a song about self-confidence
The chorus is really interesting
Changbin had sung the guide
and there's a part that goes "Hm"
That part was so hard to listen to
It was so annoying
Hm
What does it mean?
We have a lot of flaws
but that's what makes us special
I always like to cause trouble
so the members say
"Not again, I.N"
But I think
STAY will find it charming
and...
trigger a protective instinct
In "COMFLEX"
there's a dynamic rhythm variation
and those elements
make it a fun listen
It was a fun song to sing
and the song
uses a lot of vocal techniques
I always think about how I
can make the song fun
and which parts I should
sing with more power
and "COMFLEX" was a song I put
the most thought into
It's a song I can sing
as SKZ's vocalist
So singing "COMFLEX"
was a pleasure
It was fun
This song is more special
because it's the first
B-side track I wrote
Initially, I was taken aback by
the grandness of the track
because I usually prefer minimal songs
But somehow
I was able to come up with
a good top line and hook
After finishing the song
I recorded it with Chan in
his recording booth
We filled the second verse
with Chan's verses
and that's how this song came about
I remember Chan's voice
being in the demo
I was impressed by the chemistry
of their voices
It was a shame to cover it up
with all of our voices
That's how much I liked the demo
I still listen to it
Even if we use the same guitar sound
Hyunjin has a way of making
the energy inside him to flow
freely in his body
Rather than power
this song leaves a lingering
sense of sadness
Asking something to be hidden means
if the sights you're seeing
or the environment you're in
make you feel anxious
someone can hide them for you
That feeling
changes every day
I drew inspiration from
one of Hyunjin's lonely days
and it inspired me to
come up with a song
that people could resonate with
Among our melodical and deeper songs
this is the first time
we have a part where we pour all
our emotions out in the end
That was the first part
that I recorded
I did it in one take
We kept the first recording
and sang it two more times
but the first one was the best so we
went with the one-take version
Since I listened to the song
before going into record
I was able to reflect on the emotions
and carry them into the song
- Ready?
- Yes
- Okay, let's sing it
a few times - Okay
I think we're good
Should we give it a listen?
It's so grand
The guide was sung in falsetto
but I got greedy
I was in the vocal room
alone with Lee Know
and I asked him if he could hit
the notes in a full voice
We were talking
and I asked him to try it in a full
voice and it actually worked
Back then, I had
a work appointment so I couldn't
join the directing
so I left Chan
a note saying
"I want this part to sound like this
and that part to sound like that"
and Chan directed the song in my place
As soon as I came back to Korea I
went to the recording studio
and listened to the songs
and they were so good
I was so happy with them
As for the members who didn't
record that day
I directed them
It was HAN and Felix
Try to sing it like "doh"
- More like "oh"?
- A little bit!
- Just a tiny bit!
- A tiny bit!
That was great!
Phew!
I really like Felix's voice
I really like his singing voice
So I had asked him to sing the intro
and a lot of the melodic parts
Yongbok made it work
The last hook in HAN's part was
originally sung in falsetto
but I got greedy again and asked
him to sing in a full voice
and he pulled it off so well
HAN must have been greedy too
He kept wanting to record it again
In the demo, the "yeah"
was sung in falsetto
but two days ago
he asked me to sing it in a full voice
I thought I could do it but was worried
whether it would sound good
I was working on changing my
singing voice back then
so my voice would crack when
I hit those notes
My throat was fine but my
voice sounded hoarse
so that was a bit of a challenge
but Hyunjin and Chan led
the recording session
in a comfortable atmosphere
and that's how it turned out so well
It took some time to get there, though
The song was created with
everyone's voices
and it has a special place in my heart
This song is more of a winter song
Since our "ROCK-STAR" album
is dropping in the winter
I hope you give it a listen
This song reminds me
of the fall season
I wrote this song a little
but I held onto it to
release in the fall
This song really captures
Changbin's mood
I'm actually a fan of trot music
The melody itself is
a little old-school
It brings out emotions I experienced
in my childhood
It sounds like an old K-pop ballad
Leaves refers to tree leaves
but it also refers to leave
as in to go away
I tried to incorporate fall
leaves in the lyrics
If you're still holding on to
a memory from the past
try picturing those times as
you listen to the song
It's an easy listening song
that's perfect for this weather
and makes you feel at ease
We finally got to film SKZFLIX
But after reading the script
the members were worried
Some of us were nervous
because we're not used to saying lines
I really enjoyed watching the shoot
I was worried about it being awkward
but once the camera started rolling
the members performed like a natural
so even though I never learned
acting before
I had fun
I just enjoyed it
That's rock
"I have to go back now"
STAY always
compliments me saying I look cool
I'm very grateful but honestly
I'd like to be more comedic
Next time, I want to try something
more lighthearted
I have to go back now
I wanted to try writing my story
'Won't there be someone who would
relate to my story?'
That's what I thought while
writing the song
The members came to my mind
while I was writing it
I thought they'd feel the same way
The lyrics start out like this
Gave up
my youth
For my future
That sentence
made me really emotional
All the songs we've written
are all very special to me
but "Social Path"
is close to my heart
in a different way
We've been together since
our trainee years
which means we've spent
roughly a decade together
We spent every day together
cheering each other on and
all those emotions
are melted in this song
I think this song will continue
to have a big impact on SKZ's future
I heard that STAY likes it
when the eight of us pump
each other up on stage
That makes me really emotional too
During our concerts we're
all drenched in sweat
We're hugging each other
all soaked in sweat
Even when we're practicing
we hate touching each other
because we're so sweaty
but that doesn't stop us
from goofing around grabbing each
other's necks and hair
and giving playful smacks in the back
Those memories will stay
with me forever
For those of you
seeing us perform this song on
stage for the first time
I hoped this could be a song
that we could all sing with a smile
I wanted that feeling to come
through in our performance
That's why we incorporated
bright and cheerful dance
moves into the song
"I am NOT", "I am WHO", "I am YOU"
We've released so many albums
And then there was the Clé Series
Those albums
are like a testament to that
period in our lives
The meaning behind the albums
and the timing of each release
perfectly aligned with our
situation at the time
Just like how we go through kindergarten
through high school
releasing each album one by one
felt so much like going through
grade school and middle school
Both musically and as a person
As a human being
I think we grew up along
with the album
Discovering our musical
identity and color
brought us closer
to the image of Stray Kids
that I had envisioned
As you'd all know, we didn't start out
as a group that could perform
in front of a big audience
So back then
the fans who came to our music show
felt so huge to us
I remember asking this every day
"How many people came today?"
We'd ask the staff "How many
people came today?"
"This was our biggest number How
many people came today?"
We'd always ask this question
So back then, during our music shows
we never could have imagined the
seats filled with our fans
Now, when we hear our fans saying
they applied for our music show
but didn't make the cut I
still can't believe it
One of my aspirations for the future
is to perform in front
of even more fans
I hope more people will
listen to our music
I want to be recognized
I love receiving compliments from STAY
so I want to get more compliments
I'll have to work harder
There's still so much
I want to achieve
I want to keep going up
I want to be the best
I used to worry so much
about the future
But whether I stress about it or not
we have to carve our own path
and explore paths that
no one's gone before
But I enjoy the challenge
A thought popped up in my head
The present is both the most enjoyable
and the most challenging
and it's also when
I feel the most pride
so instead of worrying
I just want to enjoy the present
We stuck by through thick and thin
We gathered as a team just
like the Avengers
I don't think we could have
done it any better
That's what I think
As I was preparing for this album
I kept picturing the word
"pleasure" in my head
I think I've said this many times
but if you asked me "When
are you the happiest?"
I'd say it's when I'm singing
and when people relate to my song
That's when I'm the happiest
and when I feel the biggest
sense of accomplishment
I find joy in improving myself
It makes me
proud of myself
I'm happiest
when I'm able to show you
how much I've grown
That's my biggest joy
To be able to communicate and
share myself with someone
That's what I live for
If our message
sparks a change in you
even if it's just a little
If it can move people's hearts
that's good enough for me
We talked about a lot of things today
but I still have more
to say in the future
Our members are all talkative,
that's why
We have so much to say
through our music
Be it funny stories love
stories, sad stories
or uplifting stories
I want to share new stories
with the listeners
especially STAY
and evoke new emotions in them
through our music
If you were to ask our group
about our plans for the future
I want to keep this going with
the members for a long time
That's my answer
We've been through
good and bad times
so whatever happens
I just want to keep doing music
Why do you think "pleasure"
is the last emotion?
It's because even when things
get rough we can pull
through the hardships
and in the end
we can reach a happy ending
Joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure
is like a four-act narrative structure
While people
do enjoy
watching sad endings and open endings
when it comes to our lives we'd
always want a happy ending
We have to push through
We have to stand back
up and keep going
So even if we experience
angers and sorrows
our pleasure
will keep going
for decades and centuries to come
We'll show you how Stray Kids have fun
like the rock stars we are
Come along with us
and enjoy the ride
JUST ENJOY, OKAY?
Please support me on PATREON Thank you!
