Ingredient. In this case, "cream" is not a noun
but a verb, meaning "to mix the butter and
sugar thoroughly." It is best to choose recipes
that call for ingredients on hand or readily
available, give accurate amounts, and tell
exactly what to do with each ingredient. They
should suggest a test for doneness — such as
appearance, feel or temperature. They should
stipulate the yield, or how much food they
make.
