(I) Tandems are slowly increasing in popularity among cyclists all over the world. (II) Invented by the Dutch man, Hans Tandem in 1904, they have remained until now relatively scarce. (III) However, as people cycle longer distances, the advantages of a two-person bike are becoming clear. (IV) Not only are a cycling couple less vulnerable to attack, but with two people pedalling, riding is less tiring. (V) Cycling in groups through deserted areas is another precaution people take against attacks.
