(II) Its people are already well-fed and its farmers receive generous subsidies, (III) Apparently, gene-spliced crops make farming safer, easier and more productive. (IV) Indeed the wealthy European countries are inclined to see farming as a traditional cultural activity, similar to folk dancing that deserves preservation. (V) They don't see it as an economic activity that needs to be maximized.
