It's usually believed, quite wrongly, that the job applicant should always try to please the interviewer. However, giving answers that you think will suit a potential employer, losing touch with your own feelings in order to get in touch with his, and, in general, practising a timid attitude, for fear that he might reject you, are certain to get you nowhere. Of course, you must not be hostile - nobody wants to hire someone disagree¬able. But there is plainly a middle ground between being overly friendly and being hostile.
