(I) British medical researchers recently looked at the records of more than 800,000 people who had been treated for high blood pressure between 2002 and 200(II) Those who took angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) were up to 50% less likely to be diagnosed with dementia, compared with those on other blood-pressure medications. (Ill) When they took their medicine in combination with the more commonly prescribed ACE inhibitors, the risk was even further reduced. (IV) Of those with an existing diagnosis of dementia, this same combination meant they were less likely to be admitted to a nursing home or die prematurely. (V) High blood pressure over long periods can lead to damaged blood vessels.
