Guatemala is preparing to showcase one of its leading but seldom visit attractions: Mundo Maya, that is Maya World, region where some 4000 years ago Mayan people established an empire, developed a written language, constructed stone buildings, stepped pyramids without metal tools, and regulated their warfare by astronomical observations. Taking in Spanish colonial sites and jungle landscapes as well as Mayan ruins, the project is designed to boost tourism in the economically depressed region which straddles Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and southern Mexico.
