In today's society, parchment— that antique
material of communication and ancestor of paper — is scarcely used at all. The illuminated manuscript, a precious link with the world's great past, is nowadays the exclusive preserve of the historian and other academies. Nevertheless, up until even fifty years ago, parchment was still used for diplomas and important charts. However, at present, even at specialized exhibitions, there is no possibility of seeing a demonstration of parchment making, and the information that does exist on the craft and its skills is handed down theoretically, by people with no practical experience.
