Mary Ann wasn't frightened ………

Travelling by yourself all through the night when you are ten is a big adventure and you can hardly expect to sleep as if you were in bed at home. But Mary Ann was not at all frightened. She had no brothers or sisters so she was often by herself, and she had learned not to let herself be afraid unless there was something serious to be afraid of. She had come to Australia from England because her father was going to live and work in Suncity. And because her parents had decided that a hotel, the only home they had been able to find, was not a happy place for a little girl. Mary Ann was going to live with the Walkers, Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary, who lived on a sheep station two hundred miles west of Suncity.
