Dostoyevsky wanted to settle In Prague because ........... .
Soon after their three-month-old daughter died, Dostoyevsky's wife became pregnant again. They were living in Italy at the time, spending the last of the money Dostoyevsky had received for his latest novel. In fact, almost all of it was spent while the debts he had left back in Russia were still unpaid and he couldn't return there without risking debtor's prison. Yet, in his anxiety for his wife's state after the shock suffered by the loss of their first baby, the author decided that they should go and live in Prague, where she would at least feel more at home among fellow Slavs.
