The author tells us that though Edison didn't invent the radio, ....
Thomas Edison was probably the greatest inventor
in history. He had only three months of formal
schooling, but he changed the lives of millions with
such inventions as the electric bulb. Edison, who
patented more than 1,100 inventions in 60 years,
defined genius as " 1 percent inspiration and 99
percent perspiration." He demonstrated this belief
by working for days at a time, stopping only briefly
to sleep. Everything interested Edison. He came
close to the invention of the radio, and predicted the
use of atomic energy. Edison always tried to
develop devices that would work under ordinary
conditions, could not easily get out of order, and
were easy to repair. He also improved the
inventions of other people, which included the
telephone, the typewriter and electric-powered
trains.
