The interest towards Paulownia, known as the world's fastest growing tree, is gradually increasing. Grown especially in Japan, China, Australia, and recently in Turkey, Paulownia is a fertile and durable plant; the leaves can be used to feed animals, the trunk is suitable for furniture-grade timber and it can stand temperatures between +40C and -25C. Long considered a worthless plant, the wide-leaved tree grows as tall as 5 to 6 meters in its first 6 months and has a 2-meter-deep root, which also makes agriculture possible in the fields where Paulownias are grown. Studies have also shown that the plant reduces the effect of wind and evaporation, and increases humidity, amplifying the productivity of crops raised around it to the degrees of 15 to 30 percent. An 8-9 year old plant gives 1 cube-meter timber, which costs almost $220.
