Suspiria is one of the finest achievements of Italian horror director Dario Argento. It is extremely effective in terms of creepiness and terror. The basic story is that an American dancer arrives in Europe to begin classes at a famous ballet school, but ends up uncovering an assembly of witches. The opening is terrifying and one of the best examples of mood in a film and the accompanying score by Goblins is amazing. When you hear it in the movie, your flesh just crawls. As it is well known among the cinema circles, Argento favours style over substance, so if you like great scripts, dialogue, and acting, keep away! However, this movie has so much style that it completely makes up for the lack of substance. This masterpiece is better than anything that overrated Hitchcock could do.
